Joseph Zbukvic is a leading master of watercolours. He came to Melbourne when he was 18 years old where he went to art school to become an industrial designer. During his studies he had to produce drafts using watercolours. By the time he received his diploma, he had fallen in love with the medium. Two years later he won his first prize selling his master piece for twice the amount his father was earning at work.
He never had any formal training so he is mainly self-taught, and in those days there were no DVDs or tv programmes to learn from. He just painted and developed his techniques. He now has a fine studio in Melbourne where he creates his larger works. However, most of Joseph’s paintings are completed on location.
His impressive achievements and enormous success is due to his ability to transform any subject into visual poetic language. Covering an infinite variety of subjects, his sensitive, lyrical and atmospheric paintings have captured people and galleries from all around the world.
